  1. As someone who was privileged to hear Assistant Attorney General Thomas Perez speak at the National Disability Rights conference in Los Angeles, it was uplifting and inspirational to know that the Department of Justice is going to be taking an active role in enforcing the rights of individuals with disabilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Supreme Court’s Olmstead decision. For too many years, these important rights have been ignored by the Department of Justice and individuals with disabilities have remained unnecessarily institutionalized, kept from using the public transportation system, or unable to fully interact within their community. It is great to have a Department of Justice that cares about protecting and enforcing the rights of individuals with disabilities, and I look forward to the benefits of their work having a huge impact for many years to come.
